Blending Images in Photoshop
Today I am going to show my readers some different blending techniques in Photoshop. For copyright reasons, I have been given permission to all of the images in this blog.
This picture consists or two layers: the
moon and the picture of the cat, with the cat as
Layer 2.
Here's how I created this blending effect in Photoshop. First I
selected the background of the moon and deleted the selected area from
the cat layer. With the cat's face I changed the
layer effect from
Normal to
Luminosity, this
changes the colours in the layer to match the grey and whites of the
moon. A different
layer effect
which can be used in a picture like this is
Overlay. This
layer effect blends
the top layer into the one below the same way that
Luminosity does,
except it keeps the original colours of the layer being used.
I
hope that that isn't too confusing. Then I changed the
Opacity to 44% so
that the cat looks like it is part of the moon.
With this picture I wanted to make the eye a part of Ayers Rock or
Uluru but make it stand out. First with the eye layer (
Layer 2) I used the
Eraser Tool set on
Basic Brushes with
the
Hardness
at 0% and the
Master
Diameter to around 40%. Using the
Eraser Tool I erased
around the eye within the rock blending the eye into the rock. Next I
set the eyes
Layer
Effect to
Linear Light.
With this picture I blended the two photos with the
Feather.
With each individual image layer I did the following. First I selected
the background of the layer. Then I went Select > Modify >
Feather, I set
Feather to 30, this can be played around.
Then
I deleted the selected area. Once both images were feathered, I moved
them around until they blended into one another. Blending with a
feather looks the best when both images have similar colours.

Some Photoshop Websites
Being a Graphic Designer, I am very familiar with
Photoshop. I enjoy
using it, and learning about the endless effects you can create using
Photoshop with filters.
My favourite Photoshop Forum is
Devppl.com
You can find myself and lots
of other people on Devppl helping people solve their Photoshop
problems. If you stuck in Photoshop, this is the forum to go to!
Photoshop forums are also a good source
of advertisement for people like Graphic Designers and Website
Designer. After every posting I add my signature. Displaying my
signature with my website address invites people to check out my
freelance Graphic Design business website.
Another website I would like to
recommend is
Worth1000.com
This website
has beginner to advanced Photoshop contests which anyone who joins can
enter. For the beginner competitions Worth1000 provides a photo, which
you have to Photoshop. For the advanced competitions, competitors are
asked to create a picture with a specified technique, e.g. one
competition asked competitors to create a picture with fire as the main
technique. Worth1000 also had a wide range competition pictures in the
gallery which you can view. These pictures are amazing, and a must see
for any Photoshopper.
